Paranoid me wants tape on both sides. Reasonable me says you guys are correct about being able to keep an eye or two on the tears.

I seriously love the collection idea, I'm in near tears about that. I think I'll be ok with doing a repair. That end isn't under that much stress & I did find the rips & cuts After sitting in it, yet heard no additional damage being done.

Then again, a new WBBB,,,,,, hmmmmm!

Seriously, my original Skeeter Beeter is over 4 years old & is retired 6 months ago due to a 2" tear in the center, where my tush goes, but I use it every 3rd night at work with no change in the tear.

    Again, WOW, THANKS!!!

She's good people and has been doing this for a long time---would be your best bet.

Thank you, I'll do just that. I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine (nearly 50 years experience) but I'll take any advice to get back in the trees.

Even if you do end up w/ a new hammock, I would probably still repair the old one.
I'm no expert on the subject but from all I've gathered reading here over the last few years, my gut instinct would be to go w/ the Tear Aid, (used for sails) & no sewing. But what ever you do, we'd be interesting to hear the results.

    OH!!! OK! Now I see.

There is a place near me that goes by the name "Strictly Sail" that sells sailboats & related stuff. I'll give them a call later today & see if they have it. At least for future reference. I was wanting to try the sewing repair at this time, & if I can't find at least now I know about Tear Aid. I'll keep the tape & sew as a viable option.

You say "No sewing" but wouldn't it be stronger to sew first, at least the 8" cut/tear?

Thanks, this is a big help!!

Thanks again to all who have posted. I'm overwhelmed.

Well, off to work for me.

ps investigate 'wonder under' for placing the patch before sewing. km
I'm very familiar with Wonder Under and it has the same issues as Stitch Witchery from my experience. It is fabulous stuff for appliques and non-stress applications. But I wouldn't trust it for weight bearing applications. It is also heat activated and so the temperature range becomes critical with thin nylons.

I'll contribute $20 for Doctari's new WBBB... and I second the idea of fixing the SB with no stitches. I've used Sailrite's Tear Aid... good stuff!

Definitely sew after taping. You want the additional structural support of the tape.

There's $80 pledged so far. Can we just send $$$ to Brandon via PayPal, and put "For Doctari WBBB" in the Note? If we need someone to organize it, I'll volunteer.

You are going to need to sear the cuts if you sew it to prevent raveling. The danger there is the searing will widen the opening creating more of a stress point. If you use the proper type of adhesive (I heard good things about Tear Aid but it is a bit pricey) then the adhesive will seal the tear and stop the raveling.
