    Hey from Texas!

Hey everyone! I'm just getting into backpacking and knew I did NOT want to sleep on the ground! I'm don't have a hammock yet so I'm doing lots of research to find out my best options. Ya'll have a wealth of great info on this forum and I've already learned alot.

I have 25+ years experience sewing so building my own gear is a strong possibility. Hope to be able to share some of my experience with some of you here. I've never seen so many guys excited about sewing/sewing machines before in my life! It's very refreshing.

Welcome to the forum! Most of us on here though are excited about "Thread Injectors" (sounds more like a power tool). Look forward to seeing some of your craft when you start making your own gear. I am just starting out with the DIY gear, but I definitely have the bug. I am now the proud owner of 3 sewing machin... uh, eh hem, Thread Injectors.

run down to JoAnn's/clothworld and ask about "flag making" material- ripstop is considered best, but a decently strong taffeta will be more than enough.

Welcome to HF. If you come across any questions you can not find answers for. Do not hesitate to ask. Someone is bound to have a good answer.

Welcome to the group! From my perspective here in Houston, the fourth largest city in America, an area we've called home for nearly 200 years, Texas looks like a large place. Up north ways, it's Texas half way to Chicago, and toward the west it's Texas half way to to Los Angeles. There are no cities of note in between. I hope you'll look up the page on our "Texas Fall Hang" in mid November, which will be at Fairfield (good fishing) Lake State Park, about halfway between Houston and Dallas, and consider joining the group.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

The Texas Fall hang sounds like a lot of fun...now if I can just convince my husband to go!
