I think the CoolGrizz is the only known adjustable (put the hitch anywhere on the line) truly single line suspension.
You not bad, frawg.
Watch out for rain tracking down the line/strap into the hammock.
I use something similar to this, although not a single line. I just have a strand of amsteel coming from each end of the hammock. Put that through the loops on my huggers, then put a MSH in the amsteel.
Hmm- I do the opposite- Amsteel loop (of Whoopies-attached to hammock) over toggle inserted into treehugger MS....still two/three piece system..not one- or were we going for one on each end?
(hmm .. amsteel ridgeline run thru gathers, out to trees, then back to MS? truely a one piece system!)
PS don't fret the patent process- the groupthink here is well worth the revenues lost.
Thanks for replies. Other systems, however, have multiple parts, slings, rings, etc., just as you describe. This one is one strap. Period. Oh, and a trail stick. I'm experimenting with a 1/2 inch width strap (don't worry, I wont hurt any trees), which even better will allow hitching the marlin spike and, in theory, will reduce weight by 1/2. I just got forty feet of it from strapworks.com, so I have to try it in my local park in St. Charles, IL if I get a chance.
ck1, I've used 1/2" and 5/8" mule tape with good results. Mule tape snags on the bark a bit, but it works and has a great strength. (IIRC, mine has a 1500-1800# rating.)
Your coolgriz technique is worthy of a patent..the sailors from a hundred years ago will probably argue your "invention" in court for years.
Ambulo tua ambulo.
Ha ha, that's a good one about the sailors. Funny.
Hmm, mule tape. I've never heard of it. The strapworks.com 1/2 inch strap is only rated, I think, to 300#. I know some say it looses strength when tied, but I don't plan to hang over any gorges or anything, so if I fall down and go boom-boom, it's okay. No great, just okay. Mule tape? Hmmm. I gotta check that one out, garg. Thnks.
This idea is "field expedient" and can be used when you have limited resources, but must get the job done.
