    Lancaster, PA?

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but...

I just got my first hammock in the mail yesterday and want to try it out somewhere locally. I noticed quite a few people in the area on this forum (but can't remember who exactly) so was wondering if there is a good place to go where I won't get arrested/ticketed? The backyard isn't working out.

I'm in Lititz, not far from you and often just go a bit north to the AT. You can hang at the State Parks without problems too. We've been to Codorus, Pine Grove Furnace, Caledonia, Gifford Pinchot, French Creek to name a few.

Think about attending the MAHHA hang in October. You'll enjoy it and learn alot.

thanks for the replies. i was being a bit impatient - my car is being inspected and i wanted to go somewhere close enough to bike to. but i guess i'll have to be an adult and just wait.

Welcome Newlease! Im down in Willow Street. Im finding there is really nothing really close. Lancaster Central Park has a small campground that surprisingly is rated good because of its privacy. Only 5 sites! its only "facilities" is a large plastic port a potty serving the whole place. I think scouts use it more than others. Otherwise, Im learning what the other guys who have lived here longer than me already know. Go to the AT for free camping, or any of the parks 2Q mentioned for a fee. Ive stayed at Gifford and its a real nice place. Ive read that some of the others mentioned are real good too.

I can hang on the horseshoe trail From middle creek north or maybe the southern part of the conestoga trail. That is about it for Lanc Co. Both of those are probably a pretty good bike ride. I stay out of the park after dark although the campground sounds interesting and that would be OK. I second 2Q on coming to mahha. I think we need a Lancaster county hang soon. Our numbers are growing.

Good to know about conestoga trail. I briefly hiked the trails around Susquehanna park west of Quarryville to see if there were ideal places to hang, nope- day use only. I think Lancaster central park camp is ideal for new scouts. there is not much to do there unless you bring your bicycle to pass time or you are working on your hammock camping skills or playing with your new stoves!

I agree about Mahha. Unfortunately, I will be overseas during this one, so Im going to Dolly Sods instead. Will have to catch the Spring Mahha. A Lanc. County hang sounds real good to me! I remember 2QZQ describing some scrumptious campfire deserts they make...

I strung up a hammock at Kellys Run Natural Area on a day hike. I planned on taking a nap but ended up answer a lot of questions about hammock camping.

Buchmiller park just south of the city and Longs park will let you hang for the day but no overnights.

Good to know about the day trips. Turns out you can't hang at Lancaster County Park, though. The camping area is all cleared of trees!
