I have three poles right now. We'll have one hanging slot open, after Thing1 and I set up our hammocks.

If we use it as a cooking shelter, we'll just place sit pads around it, inside the tarps... room for 9 people, probably.

The aluminum poles are just under 6.5 lbs each, or 19.2 lbs for all three. It will double my pack weight.

I was thinking of buying three or four logs locally, and making the cuts with a chain saw right there in the seller's yard.

Hey Burrito ! I can pick you up on my way through . Although my Jeep might make a tight fit with Running Feather too. . . . I know ! You like to be punctual if not early to these events , maybe you can make this a week long event. Plan to leave the Monday before the hang, weather comes in you'll have a 4 day window to be on time.

If its MLK weekend 14,15,16 COUNT ME IN!!!!!!!!!!!! Im a teacher so that would be perfect. Also is a pulk sled required for this hang? And what is the nearest town, Having trouble google maping the cordinates from my house. Really hopeing I can make this one this year. After the NJ hang last year I now really enjoy winter hanging and look forward to hanging out with every one
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

It's a good bet that there will be snow on the ground, so folks who like to make such things are eager to bring one... I've never been anywhere else where I could use a pulk during the last few years.

Sounds good, Muskrat. We'll plan it as the hang gets closer.

Oh no! As long as it comes in AFTER I'm there.

    Mac,
I'm glad you had ready answers for all my questions. I'm looking forward to seeing your creation.

On pulks and snow: I made a crude pulk last year with an old pair of skis, some cross braces and some aluminum flashing. There wasn't enough snow to use it Friday, so I went back for it Saturday. Even with all the snow we had Friday night, I'm surprised I didn't tear it up on the rocks. Unless there's a real blizzard just before the hang I'll probably leave it home this time. The hike in is short enough that I'll just load up the MollyMacPack and sweat it out. Even making two trips would be easier than pulling that pulk.

Not at all. I did the first three with my son (8, 9 and 10 y/o) and we never had a pulk.

i learned form last years Mt Rogers hang that pulk sleds make light loads easier in the snow but there is a limit. And the only way the 20 pounds of whoopie pies got to the snowless shelter last year was a little known mule team I call Angry Sparrow. Man oh man was those whoopie pies worth it. I would have let Angry Sparrow drag them 20 miles if needed.
