    Fall Michigan Hang Oct. 8-10

Thought I would start a thread to see about the interest. I will be heading up to the Manistee Nat Forest to do some backpacking. As far as details go, I am still deciding if I am just hiking some of the Manistee River trail or part of the NCT. Nothing crazy on the distances though. If we have enough people interested, we could do a section with idea of shuttling with cars. I know some have said that this weekend is out, but lets see what we can put together. I am admittedly not that familiar with this area, so if those have better options on the trail, I would love to hear them.

    Thanks
    Kevin

I'm interested but can't yet commit. A friend of mine and I were planning a hike in that area for the weekend before that. I can see if he's interested in meeting up with a group and doing it that weekend instead.

Here's my GPS log of doing the loop Memorial day weekend. http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=657465

There's a few places to park so hikes of nearly any distance could be done. We could just pick a place to meet and everyone can do whatever hike they want to get there.

I'm taking 3 of my daughters for a short overnight hike there this weekend. They are 4, 6, and 8. For the 4 and 6 yr old it will be there first overnight back country camping experience.

    Thumbs up Mrt Nct

My suggestion for you is the MRT which is definitely the more scenic of the two in that area. It also provides many options for water which the NCT side only provides one. You could hike both trails for a 24-25 mile loop which I have done as well. Seaton Creek campground is where the trailhead is at and also provides a nice place for a hang/basecamp, whatever. If you do decide to head up there I would be interested in joining you. It's been a few years since I've been there...Don

Interested! My trip plans for this weekend fell through, so I'm looking to hit MRT/NCT loop area. Fall colors should be in full swing by then. There is a great site for hanging on the NCT side just south of Eddington Creek, the locals call it the Pine Barrens I think and close to water.

So, there is a little more interest now. That is looking good. For those that are familiar with the area, could use a little more info. I was generally thinking for myself when I figured I would go up anyway, just a hike in and out on the MRT. Because of when I might get up there and the early evenings, I wasn't really thinking of the loop of MRT and NCT. So what would be an others suggestions? stonehooligan mentioned a spot on the NCT side that would be good for a group hang. How far in is this area?

Corona, it is litteraly on the south side of Eddington Creek maybe a 1/4 mile past it. Its about 2- 2.5 miles from Seaton Creek Campground. I will have to get a map out when I get home and check the actual distances.
