1.1 or 1.7 and Edge Tarp?

Cant find much using the search feature on the Edge Tarp. I'm assuming all WBBB are the same length and width so I needed to make sure the Edge tarp will offer adequate rain protection? I'm leaning toward the Edge for weight savings

Since I'm 6'3 and weigh around 220 all research suggests I get the 1.7 dbl layer even though the weight savings of the 1.1 dbl layer are appealing.

Never hammocked before and have a bad back...

    Thoughts or comments?

I'm 6'5" and weigh 225. I'm happy with the WBBB in 1.1 dbl. YMMV!

I'm not familiar with the Edge Tarp. Can you give more information about it?

Ok. Thanks. I still haven't heard much about it. I have some research to do I guess.

I guess my main concern with the edge tarp was if it extends far enough to cover each end of the hammock. I'm running out of time as I have a few trips coming up soon and need to get my order placed. I've found some cheaper tarps but don't have a lot of time to research them...

A WBBB hammock is just under 9 feet in length when suspended. The Edge tarp is 10 1/2 feet long. That gives about 9" of overlap at each end.

My OES MacCat Deluxe is 10' 10" long (about 11" of overlap at each end).

A Big Mamajamba tarp is 11 feet long (about 12" of overlap at each end).

All of these tarps are somewhat hex-shaped and give a bit less end coverage than a rectangular tarp.

How much coverage is enough? That's really your call and may depend partly on the type of weather you expect. High winds and rain mixed would suggest more coverage is better. If you have "doors" or end flaps or Grizz beaks, the end coverage is not quite so critical since they will protect from blowing rain from the ends.

I use a early version of an OES DeLux Spinn. It's a bit smaller (width) than the current design which is similar in size to the Edge. Pitched properly it keeps you dry under windy (+25mph) and heavy rain conditions. At times I wish for a larger tarp. Daytime heavy rains when a bit more living space would be a nice luxury. For sleeping shelter protection it is all I need.
