    Suspension Idea: 2 huggers 1 line 2 prussics/penburthys

    Hey guys,

I was thiking about my adjustable structural ridgline. I have one similar to opies (i made my own but its the same). This idea occured to me, i dont know if its original or if its dumb. The original thought would be using sliding prussics to adjust sag instead of a ridgeline. I've never seen anyone do a suspension like this, so tell me your thoughts. I haven't seen much in the way of suspension changes lately, so maybe this will spur a better way to do things. Just thinking and bored. =P

    Setup:

Clip the hugger on itself on tree 1
    repeat on tree 2
adjust sling on either end of suspension line to desired height
    adjust prussics to adjust sag

No reason it won't work, but

it looks to me like the ridgeline will de-tension when you load the hammock. If that is not a problem for you, give it a try.

I agree with Jim. Unless you can get the ridgeline REALLY tight, it looks like it would sag between the prussics, but your idea really makes ya think. Since you couldn't be cutting up your lines, can you give it a test?

Sorry Islandman8302, I have no money or time for building a rig, its just mental exercising, but if someone else wanted to test it out that would be awesome.

If that's the only concern, couldn't you tie a small piece of shock cord to two small prusiks, in the center of the ridgeline area, that you can tighten to take up the slack when it de-tensions? It would leave you with a goofy looking little loop, but you could always use that to hang a light/fan/whatever from.

    In theory, this would work.

A couple things I'd be watching for:
    1. As Jsaults said, the ridgeline section between the prusiks would lose tension when you load the hammock. It would then look like a typical hammock ridgeline, only sagging, with no good way to tension it up.

    2. The prusiks would have a tendency to slide inwards toward the middle of the ridge. Ideally, your prusiks are made from cord that is smaller diameter than what you're hanging it from. So, you'd need to have STRONG, small cord unless your ridgeline is quite a bit thicker than the lines I read about here most often.

The Klemheist is a prusik variation that holds a load inline with the cord it's attached to. I think you'd want to try that over a standard prusik first.

Cool outside-the-norm thinking! Good luck- let us know how it works out!!

Yea the sag between the prussics occured to me, i guess you would have to pull it out by pulling it outside the prussics.

Do I need to pay for the digital copy I downloaded?

Anyway, more info for me soak in for possible future use.
