    tarp cleaning

Hello all, I'm sure this has been talked about over, and over. I have tried to find some older post but couldn't.
Everyone has this happen, when you awake from a great night sleep, and you start to pack, when you notice that the tree was dripping pitch on the tarp.
My question is how do you clean a sill tarp without hurting the tarp??
I'm sure some are laughing but I just don't want to take the "waterproofing" out of the tarp. Any suggestions..

I'm fairly sure you'll get lots of suggestions. I've found that turpentine (made from pine sap) works extremely well to remove tree sap. It's flammable and smells, well, like turpentine, but it's also effective. A little on a rag will go a long way.

I used hand sanitizer once, and a little denatured alcohol (my stove fuel) another time.

Peanut butter or mayo are rumored to work as well.

Margerine too from what I have read although that was on tree straps.

I don't know if I would be rubbing a food substance onto my tarp for the critters to get a wiff of, even though it does work. I would personally stay with some sort of alcohol based substance or turpentine.

But then again...if animals are not a concern then use whatever method you choose that works best for you. HYOH/YMMV

I use the same denatured alcohol as I use for fuel.
oldgringo's reply to my worrying about owning extra hammocks:

How many pairs of underwear do you own? Do you refer to them as "extras", simply because you're not wearing all of them as we speak?
