I think I just added the first Kansas campground. Woodridge Public Use Area near Clinton Lake (Lawrence), Ks. I've camped there twice, and called the park office to ensure that hammock camping is allowed. Gates are only open during spring/summer, but public access and use is allowed year 'round.

The only rules they wanted to ensure were followed were:

    1. Fires in the fire rings only.
    2. Cutting timber is not allowed (duh!). Burning of deadfall is permissable, in fire rings only.
    3. Pets are permitted.
    4. Alcohol is not permitted on the grounds (in reference to drinking, I doubt that alcohol stoves are an issue).

    Thanks for starting this!

Thanks. That's really a good idea. As campgrounds in the US currently are not that helpful to me, I've added a sheet "Campgrounds in Europe" and added the two sites in Vienna and Budapest I've been last month.

Good idea. But can "Hammock Friendly" be a column, so we could know what campgrounds to avoid? Or maybe a separate sheet called "unfriendly campgrounds".

FYI, rows 8-38 are hidden or missing???

Just added my favorite site in Big Cypress Park in South Florida

Bear Island is open year round(if you go in the summer like I do bring a LOT of water and dont hike to much because the climate is suicide). Its really muggy in the summer with 90% chance of showers everyday but youll learn to love the cold water. Take a bottled water shower before bed and youll have a good nights rest. Bug net is a necessity year round but helps in the winter when the nights get down to the high 40's

Summer time is the most amazing time to go if you can take the heat because most of the wildlife is safe from hunters and the plant life is in full bloom.
Every time I hang in a tree I get a coconut to the head.....stupid coconuts

The only problem is that I consider all campgrounds hammock friendly until I try it, and if one asks that is when you would be told no. My plan would be to ask on the way out of the campground. But for all practical purposes in the west anyway, it is likely that only a state or county park in a populated area would be a problem. I wish I could add some state parks, but as I mentioned if you go around asking, you may get a different result than if you just do it. Then there is the interpretation by different employees etc.
Where can I get one of those "hammocking is not a crime" bumper stickers.

But we should be striving to educate on the postive aspects of hammocking, instead of always playing the "oh i'm sorry, i didn't know" game.

FYI, I cleaned up the sheet a bit the other day, adding location info on a lot of parks. I left those alone that i wasn't positive about.
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own

Great idea to use Google docs for this!

a group of us have been talking to the Provincial / National parks in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick about putting specific hammock friendly sites in their advertisements. They wanted to know what constituted a hammock friendly site so they could go through the park and list the specific sites.

I think the project slowed down or stopped but I will have to check on it again.

so what about a column on the spreadsheet that people could add the specific sites in a campground that are hammock friendly. That way when you go to reserve online or over the phone you can ask for one of these sites.
