If you are taking things outdoors then a cotton blend is not a good idea. Cotton is subject to mildew and rot. Often failing without warning.
Taslan and Marpat are proprietary names and I am not familiar enough with them to be able to comment. Best google them and check on the manufacturers websites.
Regarding ripstop and catastrophic failure.. there is some debate as to whether the ripstop fibers will stop a catastrophic failure in the hammock body. I have not had either taffeta or ripstop fail in that way. However weaves like satin are very prone to abrasion and will fail without warning if they are damaged. It's all in the weave. Nylon and polyester fabrics are very strong for their weight. There is ample evidence in my mind that even a light weight taffeta will withstand the forces involved unless you are way above the customary weight. There are some charts available on line which provide guidelines as to the recommended fabrics for different weight loads. I think WarbonnetOutdoors has one if I understand correctly.
