    A hammock newbie is born...

Hello everyone, me name is Parrish, aka "MudBone" (I noticed you already have one of these, but I've been going by it for a long time, so maybe just call me #2), and I live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. I joined your forums some time ago but didn't really feel I could justify making a post until I made my hammock camping dream a reality.

Last weekend my buddy and went to southeast OK and camped at Billy Creek and Horsethief Springs campgrounds and I was able to sleep in my hammock for the first time in a camping setting. Wow, what an excellent experience! I had set the hammock and tarp up in the backyard for practice, and even took the rig with me this past March on a trip in the Ozarks but had never actually slept in it overnight. This past weekend was amazing, a crick I had in my back for a month disappeared like magic, and I'm hooked.

I'm posting some pics below of me and my setup at the two locations, but please don't make fun of my gear. I'm a carpenter with a lot of financial obligations and can't afford much, so I'm doing a little at a time with what I can get by with. I have an ENO singlenest hammock I won in an eBay auction, some tree huggers I made from old truck straps, and a Wal-Mart poly tarp for a cover. Luckily there was no rain last week or I think I may have had problems with that tarp setup, but it kept the pine needles off of me while I slept so it was a success.

Like I said earlier, I've been a member of the forums for awile and enjoy trolling through old posts to learn about gear, hammock setup, tarps, etc. I have also watched the videos Shug has made (incredible amount of info and entertaining too!) and some of the other members I can't remember offhand. My first glimpse into hammock camping occurred during a trip to Eureka Springs last year where I first saw the ENO hammocks. I was intrigued and had to have one, but couldn't justify the expense. I would later buy the one shown below around Christmas time.

So, in closing, I would like to say that I really enjoy these forums and I intend to become more active here as my experience with hammocking increases.

we never make fun of gear- only situations and the folks in them...so, try not to let anybody get photos of you falling out of your hammock..and all is well.
glad you could get up here, doing it on the frugal path is even more of an accomplishment- (i mean; anybody can solve a problem by throwing money at it..)
