Yes I have Yetis and Mambas

I have three season and winter Yetis and of course both Black mambas. At winter time I have been using thin CCF pad between layers of BB dl 1.7. Mainly to keep my feet warm. System has been excellent!

But when talking about temperatures below -5 F, I think those are not enough. That is where the Synmat 9 comes in to the picture. And pad would also serve as a backup and cabin use in wintertime as You already suggested.

I guess I should test it if I want to know how it works. But it may be too warm at this early autumn.

I have that pad, but so far, I haven't been able to find temperatures lower than 60 degrees to test it out. Gotta love Alabama - it's been a hot summer and just doesn't want to cool off!

I put the entire pad in my WBBB 1.1 double, just to play around with it. I even took a nap with the pad inside the hammock. Between the pad being thin and flexible, and the double layer hammock, I really didn't have any major issues. But I did notice that the 40 inch wide pad is way too wide, particularly at the head of the hammock.

I need to cut it down, but I haven't had much time trying to figure out the best dimensions. Right now, I'm leaning towards some sort of asymmetric cut that will better match my diagonal sleeping position. Check out this website for a description of how to use 2 layers of the GG pad to make a sleeve that will fit a regular 20 inch pad. As of now, I don't plan on making the sleeve, but Sgt Rock's dimensions seem to be a good starting point.http://hikinghq.net/gear/pocket_pad.html

Wow, I'm liking the link. Though, I must say, my wife would kill me if I ever published this. One should never combine the words "wide" & "hips" when referring to a wife

I own several 1.7 DL and use no-name-brand blue pads on occasion.

I go for overkill full length wide pads.

On my 1.7s they don't move - I suspect they may slide more frequently if you use a skinnier pad (width wise) and/or a 1.1 or 1.0 hammock due to lower friction on the finer threads (smoother fabric - the 1.7 is coarser and likely grips more)

Just my observations and $0.02 - wish I had more to give.

Good luck! BB is a great hammock IMHO

I use an old thermarest about 1/2 inflated with excellent results.

Yes, get the pad where you want it before you put your weight in the hammock because you can't adjust easily it once you are in your hammock.

I don't know my old thermarest worked well enough so I never explored pads further once I got my under quilts. Also don't be afraid to mix and match pads and under quilts. You can extend the range of an under quilt in cold weather by supplementing with a pad, or bring a 2/3 under quilt and use your sit pad under your feet on warmer trips.

So how wide do you recommend at the shoulders? I was thinking 34". Is that too wide?

Since my WBBB 1.7 DL is ordered but not in hand, I have a simple question...Does the DL extend into the footbox area, so a full size pad can sit at an angle and rest beneath your feet?...Sorry noob here!

I've only ever used a pad. Simply can't justify the cost of an UQ yet (but Santa may be fixing that this year). I have a wide blue 3/4" CCF pad and it works fine. I've used the pad deep into the 30's, but would say it is comfortable down to 40. Below that I can sense the coolness, but not enough to prevent sleep. I'm an active sleeper and will occasionally roll off the pad. This weekend I'm going to experiment by adding a piece of fleece above the pad (but still in between the layers).
