Talking Trip Report - Goose Island State Park Rockport Texas

    Hello All,

I did an overnight car camping trip at Goose Island State park. Spidennis recently posted some pics of his trip to Goose Island. Well, I hadn't been there in days and decided to go for a bit of fishing and camping.

Great trip! Looks like you had the place all to yourself as well. Thanks!

I've been going there since I was a little boy. My dad took us to that pier all the time. I feel the same way. The park and Rockport haven't changed much. The Big Tree just seems a little bit bigger though.

I caught 4 keeper speckled trout. Could have sunk a boat with all the 14 inch specs though (15 inch min in Texas).

Very well done vid Babelfish, I too have been going there, and Port A for years. In fact I'm heading down for a week at Thanksgiving, paddling, hammock camping, birding, and even though I don't fish any more, being at the coast brings back lots of fishing memories as a kid and it's the only place I get the urge to get back into the sport. We were like beach orphans as kids, parents never worried about us, gone all day or even after dark, they knew we were fishin' off the Bob Hall or Horace Caldwell Piers, course it didn't hurt we were family friends of one of the park rangers on Mustang, that kept us in line as well. I still love to walk the piers day and night.

One thing about Hammock hanging on Goose Island is the lack of straight trees. Most of the trees are not straight. I won't say the following often, but I don't think I'm taking my warbonnet next time. It's tough to get the angles needed for the SRL to be right. It's going to be tough to get that with any hammock with a SRL.

Next time I think I'll carry my Hammock Bliss and not worry about the SRL. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
