I'm afflicted with this too. Turns out there may be quite a few good hanging spots along the roadways I travel. If I were ever homeless I know where I'd hang.

I'm always curious about the legal element--i.e., where will I get in trouble for hanging? There's a great place in a nearby park. Can I hang there without being worried that a cop is going to disturb my sleep halfway through the night? What about if I'm tired while driving a long distance--can I park my car on the shoulder and go hang between a couple of trees I spied on the other side of the ditch? Those sorts of questions.

I have a client 3 hours away and have scoped out 3 good spots to hang;
My concern; is my truck with its gear safe from thieves, or vandals.
After dark and far enough into the trees, and no-one would likely find me.
I think the time to worry about being busted is just before dark when setting up.
The private land issue could be a problem as well.
Who owns it ???
And who's gonna care ???

I live in a dense urban area, with < 10 feet between houses and no lawns to speak of. For the last 3 nights I have set up my hammock either along the sidewalk in front of my house between a tree and a porch column, or else between two columns on the 2nd story back porch. I've been thinking I'm nuts, too. I guess either I am, or else there's a lot of other nuts on this forum...
Yep, crazy as a pet coon. I do it too.
The good thing about being from Missouri is that if you die and go to hell it's a step up. Kansas is worse.

You are beyond hope, , or help! Your point?
I'm on my way into my back yard, less than 5 miles as the crow flies from the CENTER of downtown Cincinnati. I'll likely sleep like a baby for the next 7 hrs.
FWIW: as a goundling I did look for places to camp as riding or driving along. Turns out they are actually pretty hard to find, either too open, or on hilly ground or too many trees. Now: still a lot of way to open areas, but hills & trees do not concern me. "Still crazy after all these years!"
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.
We're all a little crazy...somehow. Ours just happens to be a healthy sort of insanity!
I've done that for years and it never goes away. I did it so much that my kids point them out to me now. Gotta say it was a big day when they saw one I hadn't seen...makes a dad teary-eyed. I knew then that my work was almost done.

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
Here in Denmark we're planning to stealth hang in some unusual places... some actually found while driving around
Hopefully we'll make a new thread on that when we have pics
