Yes, I had made a ray-way quilt earlier in the year (or was it last year?), and was kindof sortof following a similar type method. Sew inside out and then invert and sew closed. It's easy (easier) with the synthetic insulation.

I may be moving over to down sometime over the next year. I have a few projects in the works before that... and I have to let the budget build back up before I start working with the expensive materials...

I was sitting in BmLarson's house about two weeks ago as he was sewing his quilt. I had disassembled my cast off sewing machine in hopes of being able to clean it and use it sew my quilt when it hit me. I turned to him an asked,

"Now why don't more men get together and sew, more often? I mean, who really likes football and beer anyway?"

I went into JoAnne's fabric store the other day and dragged my wife and daughter in with me. That didn't strike me as odd until I realized that my daughter was asking me to make her a quilt for her bed.

You know, a long time ago, I might have worried about this. My mom used to drag me into the mall just about every week and leave me holding her purse, literally, as she went shopping for underwear. I can't think of anything more anxiety provoking for a 15 year old boy than to be spotted in the women's underwear section holding an overstuffed purse. It wasn't even designer!

It doesn't bother me now, however, because I had my ideas of gender superiority turned on its head, or actually my head to be precise. You see, I used to study Judo and there is nothing that will cure you of the notion that men are superior than having a 90 pound teenage girl flip you onto your back and the choke the daylights out of you. I got over myself really quickly after that.

    Yep... On all counts...

Now I LIKE it when I get to go to the women's lingerie store (with my fiance)...

    I sew, she doesn't.

Oh, and so that I don't hijack this thread with discussions of my childhood trauma, here is a close up of the channel in the 1" rolled seam.

for anyone who's looking at buying the xp, i just bought some of the .6" xp (2.5 oz) from thru-hiker and the 1.2" (5.0 oz) xp as well. the thicker 5.0 is basically just twice as thick/heavy as the stuff nc patric used(the 2.5)

i thought the 5.0 was much better quality. it seemed to have a much more consistent thickness throughout, where the 2.5 had visible thin spots in places. i was able to avoid using the thin spots, but this was because i ordered slightly more than i needed.

i also noticed that xp is listed as coming soon to www.owfinc.com
they already have weights, thicknesses and prices listed. it looks like they will have the exact same weights/thicknesses thru-hiker sells, but for slightly cheaper. their delivery times have always been much faster as well.

Nice job, NCP. In one of your pictures you mention maybe adding a couple pieces of cord to tie and help hold the foot box closed instead of velcro. Rather that having the pieces of cord hanging out what do you think about using a small loop, sewn on one side, and a small wood or plastic toggle, sewn on the other side, to go thru the loop to hold the foot box closed?

Yes, I thought about that. My one worry was that I didn't want a wooden or plastic toggle digging into my leg, but I'll have to experiment with that. I might just find a big button or something, at least that would be rounded.

    Good idea...

Since you grabbed that vine and swung out (escaped) of the other thread I will see if you landed here.

How "drapable" (for lack of better description) is the XP quilt?

Eh, pretty drapable... are you thinking of adding a head-hole or something?

The quilt will soften up a little when it's been packed a few times. Right now it hasn't been compressed much if at all, so it's still kindof stiff.

So glad that vine was handy... and in the nick of time too.
