    CCF Pad in a WBBB

Thinking about ordering some ccf to make a pad for my 1.1 dbl which should be here soon. It is still very warm here in TN at the moment, so a UQ is on the back burner for a couple months anyway.
A full sheet is 72"x48" and a half sheet is of course 36"x48". How wide do most of you cut yours and how long on average.
Not sure if it needs to go the full body lenght or what? I do know, most folks say a 20" pad is not hardly wide enough.
    Also, what thickness.
I saw a post earlier about using 2 different thicknesses: mite have been 1/8 and 3/8. Don't remember and can't seem to find the post now.
They do have a 1/16 on sale for $7.99, don't know how good that would be.
BTW, I will be using this in between the layers of the BB

    thanks for any reccomendations

i say get the 72x48 that way you can cut it down to the size you feel you need
everyone will be different when it comes to the size of there pad

i say get the big pad set it up and try it out.. cut it down a little at a time till you get it to the size you want
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

    What is CCf

Sorry for the dumb question but what is ccf, is it some kind of sleeping pad you would normally use with a bag on the ground? Cutting it to fit your hammock?

Wallyworld sells a 24" wide blue pad for about $13 dollars and it weights 14/15 ounces. I have used it many a time in my BB 1.7 dbl.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

For the wife,,who is the most hot natured person I have ever met..and never gets cold no matter what she is wearing,,lol,,and no matter how cold it is out side,,I just made her a under quilt from a 30 degree rated youth sleeping mummy bag..she is 5' 2" and bag is 6' 6" as I cut and hand sewed the foot box straight, cut the zippers off, and a few other ounces of minsicule items, then attached shock chord in numerous places,,and she is already bitching that its too hot, just trying it out in a 70 degree house,,lol,,,works like a charm and it will get her down to low 40's even lower I am betting when she throws her 50 or her 40 degree down bag on her. and it only took about 4 hrs of work,,attached all the lines with mini beiners too, on a GT skeeter beater pro. Bag weight is 1lb 3 oz. If she needs more warmth of which I doubt it ever,,she can always put a set of clothes on as she sleeps in the buff all winter long..lol 60 Bucks in the whole project.

I would say that you should cut it as wide as your shoulders, maybe a little wider, at least for the upper torso portion. I just slept with a 20" full length thermarest under me and had trouble with parts of me slipping off it. Look up SPE or segmented pad extender for another cool way to get better coverage with a CCF pad. Short summary - a fabric envelope is created to slide the pad into. Two sleeves are on the sides to create pad "wings" so your shoulders aren't hanging off the pad all the time.

Thx Shumway. I watched Shugs video and saw the SPE, I was planning on slipping it inbetween the layers of my BB. Been so dang busy the last couple days, have not ordered any foam yet. Guess I need to get to it. It's just so dang hot in TN right now, probably want need anything under me for a few weeks.

    I have a 1/8" minicell pad from McMaster-Carr

Supply. AS I recall it cost somewhere around $10-12. Folds & rolls to the size of a Nalgene qt bottle, and is sufficient insulation in my WBBB 1.7 dblfor summer temps. I have not cut mine, but it seems to fit well, covering my shoulders to below my hips. Ugly and wrinkled, but it works!
