    Talking Soundproof Hammock?

Has anyone attempted a soundproof hammock?

The reason I ask is because I had one of the worst nights sleep ever this weekend. There I was enjoying a perfectly good night at 5600 feet when I was repeatedly woken up (at least once an hour) to the sounds of bugling bull elk at the beginning of the rut. I know, poor me.

I loved every minute of it.

    Cool, love elks!

Soundproofing your hammock might be possible, but a slight weight increase or just use these anti-elk-sound-devices below... not sure how to attach them to the elk though

If you are actually concerned with it I'd wear a pair of construction type ear protection. They can hang right over your ridge line when not in use. I'd probably just get the inserts over the full "over the ears" thing to conserve space and weight.

If you were serious that is.

Considering the difficulty in really making *anything* "soundproof", it's probably better you just get yourself some earplugs as above.

I seem to fall asleep more easily when I can hear the animals and wind and nature around me...

A couple years ago my brother's then girlfriend from Florida came up to visit him, he decided to take her over to Yellowstone for a few days. First night out Elk start up in the meadows, freaks them out and they grab all their gear and head for a hotel. needless to say he is not the most woodsy guy and she had never been camping before. I on the other hand hear them and my mouth starts watering for a nice thick steak.

Nope I right there with you! I would love to be out there chasing Elk around with my long bow!
A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila.

I always have earplugs in my camping and backpacking kit.

I try not to use them - I like to know whats going on around me - but sometime you just need them... Rain for instance can be either soothing or totally annoying depending on intensity and tempo.

I also pack benedril just in case of allergic reaction but have used it to knock myself out to get an early start - sometimes I just can't sleep.
