This has probably been talked about before but how does everyone carry
there hammock stakes so they don't do any damage to your stuff?
Like holes.

I have a little nylon bag that came with an old tent to hold the stakes for my hammock and tarp. It weighs almost nothing and it keeps my stuff from getting ripped, so I think it is a necessary extra item.
oldgringo's reply to my worrying about owning extra hammocks:
How many pairs of underwear do you own? Do you refer to them as "extras", simply because you're not wearing all of them as we speak?
I made a little pouch from the Tyvek packaging that Macintyre sent me full of Insultex.

I use a gallon zip-lock bag to hold my stakes (for both the hammock and tarp) and extra line. I keep it in an external pocket on my pack for quick setup.
The zip-lock weighs practically nothing and is cheaply replaced when it eventually wears out.

The road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with weary feet, Until it joins some larger way, Where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.

reinforced base gives me peace of mind
I keep a 12" square of camp towel for drying off the tarp when I pack up. Then I roll the stakes in it, fasten with small bungee loops, and put it in my dog's pack, which is pretty rugged. That's for the big tarp that uses a bunch of stakes. The smaller tarp only has one tieout on each side, and there's a stake pocket that doubles as reinforcement sewn into the hem at the tieout point. No punctures to the tarp so far after several years use. When I pull the snakesin over the tarp I can feel where the two stake pockets are as I fold the packed tarp into a bundle, so I avoid pulling it tight against the stakes. Stake pockets have small pack cloth reinforcement at the ends.
I use titanium shepherd's hooks which are thin and sharp. I stick the sharp ends in a wine cork, and can usually get all six in one cork.
