    New Guy from New Zealand

    Hi Folks,

I came across this site by chance when considering breaking away from the conventional camping at ground level to 'hanging in the trees'. I have been fixated on the concept of hammock camping and it seems to be the best way to go. Therefore, I have spent many countless hours on YouTube, company sites and hammock forum to gather as much information about ideas that keeps me awake for hours!

    Anyhoo, a little about me:
I come from Fairlie, South Canterbury in the beautiful location in the South Island of New Zealand. I am married with soon-to-be three children. I love camping, sea kayaking and sailing. In our little township there is no active scout unit so I'm planning to work at building that up, which will be good. I also love spending time with my family, as they are a special group of people.

I love to hear from you and if you are coming to New Zealand anytime soon and you have plans to travel from Christchurch through to Queenstown, you will be passing through Fairlie so if you want to catch up for a coffee, just let me know!

    Cheers,
    Scott Marris

Welcome to Hammock Forums. I Checked out Google Earth, and WOW you got beautiful country there!

How was your winter? How much snow do you get?

You guessed it I take virtual vacations, and live vicariously thru other peoples pictures.

I enjoy Kayaking too, but the calm water type.

Enjoy your family they grow up fast.

So if you saw a fella with a hat on carring a huge army bag with patches sewn on it and thumb in the air walking down the side of the road, that was me

Fair dinkum on bringing another kiwi into the world.
I spent 3 weeks on the s.island hiking here and there
and paddling in the Abel Tasman. Did enjoy the Speights
Brewery tour and wish it was available here in the States.
Do you remember the name of the paddler who lost his life
paddling from OZ to NZ-a remarkable trip and he got so close!
Welcome to HF-thousands of collective hours here between the trees
to share the good and the relatively small bad.
