    First trip in Clark NX-250

I just got my Clark NX-250 and used it this weekend on a two day hike into Bear canyon lake and am curious about ways to make it warmer. I have a zero degree mummy bag and a fleece linner I put in it but noticed my back and the back of my legs got chilled but my chest and the top of my legs got warm enogh to swet. I don't wish to have to wear layers to sleep warmly since its not to comfortable for me and I got the hammock for more comfort so would a under quilt solve this problem? And if so are there any made specificaly for the clark 250 and compact for putting in the pack, or maybe goose down??? Any and all forums ideas are apprecaited. Oh it was about 20 degrees this weekend with a bit of a breeze.

Yep, an underquilt would fix that. A slightly cheaper (and less comfortable) solution would be to use a pad in your hammock, a self-inflatable like Thermarest, or a foam pad like Gossamer Gear's pad. Evena cheap Wal Mart blue closed cell foam pad will work in a pinch.
Also, Clark makes a underquilt type system called the Z-Liner made specifically for their hammocks... http://www.junglehammock.com/store/home.php?cat=14

My personal recommendation would be to check out underquilts made by Stormcrow. Seriously nice stuff there. http://hammockgear.com/cart/index.ph...=index&cPath=3 Light weight, high quality and super warm.

sir n0thing pretty much covered it.

I also have a NX-250, and have a 3/4 underquilt on order from Stormcrow.

I tried using the pockets stuffed with fleece vest, fleece jacket, spare clothing etc, but it was difficult to totally fill the pockets and cold spots resulted. The CJH insulation system he linked appears to be good, but it is synthetic and bulky and is Clark-specific. As I also have a Hennessey, I wanted insulation that I could use with either hammock.

I can't answer yet, but I have just received my Clark's Z-Liner insulation.
It will likely be a couple of weeks before I can give a try: and will post after each outing.

What works for me is to have more insulation on the bottom than on the top. I also made my down under quilts to fit the bottom of my Clark hammock. When I've got enough bottom insulation so that when I sleep, my backside is "always" warm, then I can go lite on the top insulation. If I get chilled during the night, I can always just zip up the top weathershield and because the chilling wasn't coming from underneight, I warm right back up and go back to sleep.

The Z-Liner sounds like a good idea minus the size thing, does anyone know the wieght? Clarks site doesnt give that little but very important detail. And storm crows products seem to have a very high respect and honor amoung the forum I will defenitaly have to contact him to see what he feels would be a good option.

Yeah, the CJH site is a bit frustrating on that point.

They have one of the slickest web sites in the industry, it is picture-heavy, they provide weights for their hammocks, but the Z-Liner system is only accessable via the NX hammocks postion, and then it lacks pictures and info. A lovely site with a frustrating glitch!

I love hammock forums ask a question and get answers, thanks again. 23oz isn't bad at all if it does infact work and those are the exact kind of pictures I was wanting to see. I think I will hold of buying any quilt or pad untill you try yours and then decide between a Z-liner or a crowsnest. Currious though is the z liner a loose fill down substitute, a layered clothe, or closer to a closed cell foam pad in a cover?
