I took i flight from Stockholm up north to Skellefteå.
Even if the lady beside me was scared stiff most of the journey, we soon landed, it was just an hour flight.
At Skellefteå Airport i was going to meet HF members Joz and Rawhide.
Even though we never meet before, we found each other quickly.
Now, we had a 2 hour drive inland to the famous Laggträsk!
On the way there we had to stop, because two Reindeer wanted to cross the road.
Peter meet us when we arrived at Laggträsk and we hiked for about 1km to get away from the crowed.
At the camping site everybody quickly choose their trees and hammocks and Tarps quickly went up.
A fire got started at the shelter,
and we started to get acquainted over the promised free dinner.
The food went down fast after that we had some coffee, even some whiskey.
But soon enough it was bedtime.
The coldest temp we had this first night was around +8C.
Rawhide had some UQ problems this night and thought +8C is **** cold.
He is waiting on a Stormcrow Uq and had made a DIY UQ from an old sleeping bag.
But this DIY UQ slipped to one side the whole night.
We others, we snored away.
Day 1 was gold panning day!
After breakfast we drove to some promising creeks and got a crash course in gold panning from Joz.
Soon the whole crew was shoveling, panning but all in vain, someone had cleaned the place before us.
We quickly packed the gear and drove to next creak.
Here we did same thing as before, and soon got very hungry.
So four gold diggers packed up four stoves, four pots and four lunches
and started cooking.
During lunch we decided that this creek was probably plundered as well.
So we called the gold panning off.
Peter decided that we should see the other side of the lake this time.
So we hiked back to the hammock camp on a another trail close to the water.
Joz unfolded his fishing rod and started fishing, we others trotted on.
Joz arrived later to camp, but he could let go off that fishing rod.
And sure enough, not long after coming to camp, he landed a beautiful 37 cm trout.
The limit was 35cm and the trout looked a bit thin, so im pretty sure he stretched that poor fish 4-5 cm.
Joz quickly gutted it and soon enough it was cooking.
My guess is, that the trout was eaten within 30 min from being landed.
It was delicious and i don't even like fish
It was starting to get dark, no one was hungry but all was tired and it was shocking 4 hours until tonight's big event.
The toasting moment with our Danish brothers.
With some help from a warm fire, Whiskey, snacks and a story or two time crawled closer to 22.00 hours.
The shot was taken and everybody was tired , so we hit the hammocks!
This night Rawhide UQ didn't give him any problems and he slept good.
The coldest temp we had this night was +AC.
Day 2 was Pork eating day!
I might have got this slightly wrong
Laggträsk is the home of the famous Pork Screamer Bird.
It's a friendly bird that hangs around camp sites for chance to get some pork left overs.
In celebration of this bird, the people up north have a traditional pork eating Sunday in the autumn.
And today happened to be that pork eating Sunday!
We were invited by Peters family to join in this traditional pork eating.
Peter's parents , wife and kids drove to the cabins close to us and
invited us to a great lunch.
It was as you might have guessed, pork cooked over open fire,
served together with thick pancake and crowberry juice.
There was also a lot of singing, dancing and chanting !
It was a very nice Sunday afternoon with northern traditions.
After we got back to camp with full bellies we didn't do a thing,
exept throwing wood on the fire now and then.
All four of sat most of the evening staring into flames,
thinking about the old traditions we had witnessed earlier that day.
This night it was my turn to have problems,
the temp dropped to +4C during the night and my UQ dropped the same.
I woke chilled to found that the UQ was 4cm under my hammock.
I have to look into this before any really cold hangs.
Day 3 Departure day
Everybody got up earlier than me and when
i finally got to the shelter Peter announced that he was going to cook us breakfast.
Instant egg breakfast !
The three of sat down on the edge of shelter facing the fire.
Peter brought up three eggs, that he pecked a tiny hole in.
He placed the eggs in the hot ashes beside the glowing goal.
And announced, Any minute now, just be patient !
After a minute or two he started to mumble and looked a bit strange.
We kept our eyes on the eggs while he put some fire wood really close to eggs.
BANG
In an instant we all understood what instant egg breakfast meant!
The eggs had exploded, in our faces, over the shelter, it was egg everywhere .
Fun trick Peter
Sadly, this was the signal to start packing.
We packed.
We hiked, while some rowed.
We took farewell from Peter.
And we where back in the car driving towards Skellefteå airport.
This time the reindeers had teamed up with another gang so now they was at least 6 or 8.
We roared past, before they had a chance to change their mind and cross back again.
It was a quite car ride, all was tired and thinking about pork and exploding eggs.
I was dropped off at the airport and a couple of hours later i was back in the rush traffic
with traffic jams, red lights and fumes.
OH NO, I am back !
Ps
I'm not claiming all to be true, i may have missunderstood something, they talk funny up there.
Thanks for a great trip guys, now it's your turn to throw in some pics!
