    IRT OP. i'd personally stay away from the "sock" unless it was bitter cold. i personally like to be able to lay in my hammock and take in the view! now when it gets below 20 i don't care to see anything but a nice warm fire

    I plan on using mine in cold or windy conditions. But the nice thing with the sock is that it seems you can just flip it open if say the wind ceases or the temps increase...I agree one of the things I've enjoyed most about hammocking is the view.
