    A melted edge does not need to "appear" melted. If you do it right it will seal the edges but only feel a bit hardened. The sealed edge will not add strength as above. It only prevents raveling. In fact too much of a sear and you will clump the fabric causing it to crack when flexed and you have introduced a weak spot despite your efforts.

    This rolled hem foot thing is AMAZING. I just watched it on youtube. Why did no one tell me about this before??? I'm making a stop at the thread injector machine store on the way home and picking one up!

    If you can get them to work a lot of people like them. I have never had any luck with them. For me they are more of a pain than they are worth. They've been discussed before in the forum. Some folks find them helpful and have success with them. Other people just can't seem to get the hang of them.

    You could also use some synthetic bias tape for the edges and finish your hammock edges like some tarp edges are finished. It's a nice, clean look.
