    SRL very taut... Advice needed!!!

First off, I am new to hammocks!!! I have an ENO DN with Whoopie and Tree Hugger straps with Marlin Spikes. My trees are 16' apart; I have the tree straps at about 6'. I have the "hang" at 30 degrees (measured!!!)

I have the adjustable SRL set at 100". The hammock is very comfortable and easy to lay at an angle in the hammock.

The SRL, when I am in the Hammock is VERY taut... think guitar string!!!

    What am doing wrong???

    Thank you... Arvis

Hang the tree straps at 7', keep the hammock the same height above the ground as before, and see what happens.

yes, the only thing that effects the tightness of the RL is the angle of the suspension, the steeper the suspension angle the less tension on the RL and vice versa. if you're not already bottoming out on the ground, the easiest thing to do is just loosen the suspension, if that puts you on the ground, you'll have to raise the straps on the tree as well

    Thanks!!!

Thanks, Oh-No, thekalimist, & Warbonnetguy, for the very promt responses!!!

I will give those suggestions a test tomorrow.

I guess that I was thinking that the 30 degree angle on the suspension was sacred and that kept me from just noodleing out the problem on my own!!!

    I appreciate the help!!!

If it's a structural ridgeline, I would think very taught shouldn't be too big of a problem as long as the RL can handle the loading. It does indicate your putting a lot of load on your straps /suspension gear as well, so they should be able to handle the loading as well.

Often, I have the opposite problem. When I setup, I have to get out and tighten up some becuase the ridgeline sags a little. The RL holds up my bugnet.

In one of Professor Hammock's videos what he did was first hang the hammock then check the tension of the ridge line. If too tight the hammock is loosened until the ridge line starts to sag. After the ridge line tension is set the tree huggers are raised until the hammock is at the height you want.

I often play bass on mine...

So a tight ridgeline has never been a problem.

just to be clear, 30 degrees isn't sacred, but is a good idea because of this:

so, it's a good idea to remember 30 degrees mostly because pitching your hammock with a suspension angle *less* than 30 degrees (closer to flat with respect to the horizon) puts significantly more stress on the suspension (signified in that diagram by the X multiplier on each line).
