    Shape of bugnet for DIY

I've got one hammock that needs the net replaced, and I intend to make another hammock or two soon.

Aside from rectangular the same size as the hammock body, and asym like the Hennesy, are there other bugnet configurations I should be considering?

I'm thinking more of permanently attached or removable more than tubes/curtains, but if that's what you like feel free to make the case for them.

I intend to use a structural ridgeine (adjustable) with the hammocks I make if that matters.

You can cut the netting any shape you desire..as long as the ridgeline distance is matching your new hammock...and the outer edges of the netting equal the total distance of hammock fabric which it will be sewn to.

So, if your hammock is 120" long, your lower edge of netting needs to 120" long, then tapering up to lets say 100" at the ridgeline.

Avoid sharp angles as the zipper will not travel well around tight turns.

I did a six sided hexagon for mine. I made the hammock, adjust the ridgeline length where I felt it was comfortable (for ME) and measured the ridgeline. Then used that measurement to get a start length for the netting (+ a little for seam allowance).
Theres some pics in my gallery.
A diamond pattern will work, and you can cat cut it all too, as long as the perimeter distance matches your hammock length.

    I will add ...
If you know your desired ridgeline and desired hammock length you can sew it all together at one time and avoid sewing your netting on after the hammock is made. But you'll have to be exact, and stay with your dimensions and ridge lengths

Extending ridge length after the netting is in place stresses the netting and it can rip. Shortening the ridge causes saggy netting.

I used a rectangle for mine. Just fold in half - long wise- and sew up each end - leaving enough room to slide suspension thru. I added pockets (approx 10" deep and 5' long) along the bottom of each side to increase bug net coverage, misc. gear storage, and pull net tight to hammock body. Works GREAT!!
Here is a link to the thread I posted on a hammock I put together for my brother in law. The video is about 12 minutes but you can see how the bug net works in the video. I like the separate bug net design because you don't always need/want a net and it is easier to repair w/o potential damage to the hammock.
