    Yet another newb...

Hi y'all I'm Mark (Law Dawg is my moniker on a few other sites as well...motorcycle related). I have been hunting, fishing, motorcycling, camping, and backpacking since time was kept by sun dial. Recent total knee replacements make ground camping very difficult and so the hammock search begins. 2011 an Alaska ride is in the works and things need to get sorted out with the camp kit. Been doing my homework already (see below).

I'm considering the HH Explorer Delux Asym Zip (Hex Fly & Snake Skins) with a 2QZQ Underquilt Protector (a steal BTW). That will allow me to experiment with A MacEntyre IX UQ (underquilt) and/or space blankets and/or various insulated pads. The zipper as opposed to the "Birth Canal"? Well 2QZQ has been doing zipper mods for sometime and the HH zipper is heavier than theirs (you folk sure get real excited about ounces and grams of weight saved). Durability seems not to be a huge issue and the zipper is just more versatile and easier for my bum knees to deal with.

Weight is not the deal that space is when motorcycle traveling and so dual use items and flexibility rule. Don't fret, I don't blaze trails on my bikes. I stick to pavement and dirt roads. This site is a wealth of information (too much at times) and an introduction thread that actually gets replies from members is fresh.

Wink I'm beginning to dislike coming here...

Now I found the Clark North American and the HH set up is no longer #1. Quick question. At 6-3 250 to 260 (trying to shrink OK?) and a normal cold endurance, side (jack knife), sleeper, how would the North American work? What a versatile rig!

Hope this place does not cause a divorce.

Welcome to HF. Warning the acquisition of hammocks and hammock gear can be very addicting. But it is so much fun!

Welcome aboard. Might want to look at a bridge hammock too. Lays pretty flat, so side sleeping would seem easier.

Been sorting through what might work and what I can afford and boy-o-boy are you ever right. The Clark NA gets kicked to the curb (too short) and the 250 is too pricey (plus the 12% return penalty if I don't like it). The WBBB is real nice but again too pricey once you factor in a fly and insulation. Jasksrbetter...I dunno, looks bulky. Looks like the HH Exploder Delux A-sym Zip will be the platform I learn and try DIY stuff with.

After 38 years, not much I can do will make her blush.

Just want to say that I am a mod on a motorcycle site and the newb thread gets not even close to the welcome seen here from the members. But then we mostly use it as a sort of mod controlled firewall. Good vibes y'all!
