    Slap Straps-Carabineer-Rings

Are there any pre-made straps out there that do the same job as Slap Straps, but are made of polypropylene? The set up and loops are perfect, but I may need to get my local shoemaker to bar-tack my two lengths of 1" polypropylene into ladder loops ala Slap Straps. From there I'll hang double "O" rings on a carabineerer from a loop (both ends), and thread my Speer webbing through. I'm looking to get a bit more flexability for a perfect hang than my "eyeballing" hanging using a Speer 4-wrap is giving me.

i'm guessing that you've already considered the ring buckles
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ht=ring+buckle
    or the cinch buckles?

as i looked again at your 1st post, i see that you mentioned the double O rings.
but w/ the rings & buckles you don't need the slap straps. but a biner is a nice addition. jeff shows how the biner is used on his page, linked in the first post of the thread linked above.

I started with the slap straps and then moved to ring buckles because the slap strap is not an infinite adjustment system - you can only hang where the loops are, and in most cases that is only one or two loop choices.

Ring buckles give you a quick and infinite adjustment.

I guess I didn't describe it correctly. The carabineer would hook on (any) one of the daisy chain loops, the two O rings would be on the other end of the carabineer, the Speer webbing would be fed and adjusted through the O rings on both ends of the hammock.

That sounds similar to what I have for the Claytor, only I have the webbing from the Claytor attached to the rings with a larkshead and then use the strap from the tree as the adjustment strap through the rings. I tie a bowline loop in the other end of the strap and thread the strap through that bowline loop to hold it tight against the tree.

I'm going to replace the straps from the hammock with rope to lighten the load.

if i'm understanding you correctly, your rings would be connected directly to the biner which would be against the tree.

if that's the case, you would need to leave the cover of the tarp to make adjustments (say if you find the hammock stretching more than you want, or the wind is blowing rain in a little on one end & you would like your hammock to be centered more toward the other end).

having your rings just a few inches off the end of the hammock allows you to make adjustments w/o leaving the tarp when it's raining.

I guess I'll get the daisy chain loops bar tacked into the two extra polypropylene straps I have. Once that's done I'll set it up and take some photographs. Both the rings and the straps from the Speer should be quite close to the ends of the hammock, well under the MacCat.

You could turn the Hennessy rope into a "slapstrap" by using a fisherman's knot to form a permanent bight. To do this tie half of a fishermans knot near the hammock body, then use the end of the rope to tie the rest of the fisherman's knot. This will leave you with a big loop. Then tie figure-eight knots every six inches. This wil shorten the rope by about %60. Just get some more spectra rope, tie a fisherman's knot, and girth hitch it on the end of the hammock rope.

Or you could just buy climbing daisy chains...pre-sewn...

But why? Its more weight and more work than a webbing loop with rings on one end and biner on the other. And then rope from the rings to the hammock...

Unless of course you just want to do it your own way...
