Will two layers of 1.1 rip stop bear twice the weight of one layer?

you know i'm not really sure on that....
i think 250-260 would be MAX that i would try...

when you say Water proof do you mean for the hammock?
if so it may not be the best idea ..you want the hamock to breathe ..
if not you will be waking up in a puddle of your own sweat
just some food for thought

Some people have found a waterproof non breathable hammcok to be a bit sweaty, but I can only speak from personal experience-I've spent many nights in waterproof non-breathable hammock, and have not had sweat problem. It seems to suit some people better than others, thats all I can put it down to. The waterproofing does add weight though.
