Making a Hammock and Need your HELP!

i have hunted around trying to find the right hammock couldnt, so.... i would like to make one. if someone could recommmend a website were i could get the materials( water proof would be awsome) or if you could sell me some

that would be great and possibly some walk threw videos or instructions.

I use Quest Fabric or even look at BWDD website ...he has some good prices as well
you can also look at Thru-hiker but to me they are a bit over priced
also look at 2nds ...there alittle cheaper then 1st and are just as good

when you say Water proof do you mean for the hammock?
if so it may not be the best idea ..you want the hamock to breathe ..
if not you will be waking up in a puddle of your own sweat
just some food for thought

i would use 1.1 or 1.9 ripstop for a hammock..stay away from Sil nylon for your hammock..

you make a good point about the puddle of sweat. but i wouldnt mind trying to make tarp. I hear alot of numbers with rips stop what is the difference?
what is the weight load the 1.9 could hold

the numbers are the weight per yard of the fabric...

a single layer 1.1 would hold 180-190lbs ...
a single layer of 1.9 will hold 230-240lbs ...

thats just my guess so don't quote me on the weights

i have made hammocks out of 1.9 ripstop and i'm 215lbs and they held me fine with no problems..

i found Sin nylon a pain to work with ...but thats just me...thats why i havn't made a DIY tarp yet

Will two layers of 1.1 rip stop bear twice the weight of one layer?

I'm building one now with 2 layers of 1.1 from www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com. I go 225(ish) & I'm getting no stretch at all.

Warbonnet lists a double 1.1 as having a 240 lb. limit. I wouldn't be afraid to put 275 lbs. in it.
