    7/64 whoopie issue or not?

I have some 7/64 amsteel whoopies. They seem to be tightening to an excessive amount where the loose end exits the whoopie. This leaves a section where there the braid is very spread out. My question is this common with whoopies or what did i do wrong in making the whoopies?

    Example of my issue:

Mine look a lot like that, and they're still holding me. Maybe Opie or others who have done testing can chime in with less anecdotal evidence.

grabing the loose end and pulling up without releaseing the bury is one way to make your whoopies look like your pic.thats what mine looked like when i had some weight in my hammock and tried shortening the whoopies length.i learned that to avoid it,i have to grab the bury(were the loose end exits)lift up then pull on the loose end to shorten.

That is the point of highest stress and the most likely point of failure. There is a sharp reduction in diameter at that point because there no taper is possible with a whoopie. This stress can cause the weave to open up. 8 strand does this worse than 12 strand. Most 7/64" is 8 strand and most 1/8" is 12 strand.

Are you, by chance, tying a stopper/safety knot at that point as well? If so, that will definitely cause what you show to happen.

What you show in your picture indicates (to me):
    1. Using a stopper knot
    2. The bury is not fully engaged along it's length. The whoopie is tighter at the bottom/ exit than at the top/eye. It is evident in the pictures that the bury is not "balanced" along it's length. It might appear that way beacuse of how you are holding it in the picture. The braid/weave is bunched up more just above the tail exit than it is as you move left in the picture.

With a stopper knot at the tail exit, the sling loads up inside the bury but the bury can not fully tighten. It tries to suck the stopper knot up into the bury.

I don't use a stopper knot. It is however MUCH tighter at the exit vs at the eye/. I have redistributed the strands to its original state but am not sure how to prevent this in the future.

"milk it" up or down to even out the bury. If it's tight at the bottom/tail exit, it causes the same problem as using a stopper knot. Basically, in your pictures, you're pulling on the tail exit instead of "squeezing" / chinese finger trapping the entire bury with the cover

    From scratch
*Loosen things up where the tail slides.
    *Set your spacing/eye size.
*Starting at the eye/ beginning of the bury
    *Pinch where the bury starts
*While pinching cover and tail together right where the tail enters and pull gently towards the hammock. This just tightens the adjustable loop a little / pre loads the adjustable loop.
*Firmly milk the cover from the adjustable eye down towards the tail exit. Ideally, you want it balanced for the entire length of the bury.

What is the adjustable loop attached to? Does it allow the line to run freely so both sides of the loop are balanced?

The loop is attached to a marlin spike hitch on the tree strap. I have noticed that at times after the hammock has been loaded and I want to readjust the suspension it does not want to slide. So I feed the adjustable loop around the hitch and eyeball it. Didn't even think this could have an effect on the splice. I see how it could cause this uneven tension on the splice.

Equal tension in the splice and on both legs of the adjustable eye is a neccessity or the splice can not perform like it is intended to work.
