1 of those entries is a bout how the .74ozyd2 cuben hammock failed utterly spilling the user out on his butt leaving him with 2 really small hammocks.

There is also the non-breathability issue, but I think that would be secondary to weight load limits; CAN it hold x pounds for a thru-hike? Y/N
SHOULD it hold x pounds for a thru-hike? totally different question.

I looked at that, and regarding weight limits, it really looks like user error on set-up. Though if your selling a product, you have to take the mistake issue into account as far as setting limits and such. It really looks like the set-up at the tree was too low putting extreme stress on the hammock. I haven't dealt with cuben, but the limited stretch factor is probably an issue with distributing the load.1 of those entries is a bout how the .74ozyd2 cuben hammock failed utterly spilling the user out on his butt leaving him with 2 really small hammocks.

we grow old because we stop hiking."
-- Finis Mitchell,
i think the 1.2oz cuben with the heavier mylar film might make a good hammock. I thought somebody was producing these but can't seem to find them now.

so single layer 1.1 which has been reported to hold 400# failed on my 300# before i could lay down. Sat in it weight centered, all is well. Turned to put my feet in and before i could get flat it ripped just bellow my butt. All my weight had shifted off center as i was putting my feet in and caused the load to be concentrated, that's all she wrote. I hadn't expected a 1.1 single to be a usable option for a 300#er like myself, but i didn't expect it to give up so easy either. At some point in the future i will destroy a single layer 1.9, dbl layer 1.1 and, 1.9+1.1liner and dbl layer 1.9, just give me some time. I need to find the limits of all these configurations.

Nice work, Tim! And make sure to put, like, I don't know... a couch cushion underneath you or something! It'd be hard to backpack with a butt cast on!
actually this is the 2nd hammock that has ripped out under me and the fall is very slow, you just slowly spill out the bottom. Now when something in the suspension gives, ouch!!! that moves fast!

Hey Tim,
I just had a look at your website, I really like it's layout. Your products look awesome...lol...I think it's time to start saving my pennies again
Thanx Bunk,
enLIGHTened equipment tends to be gram counting highest performance cost be damned kinda gear. I am very proud of the gear i make but wish i could do it cheaper. That has lead me to team up with Sanborn Canoe CO. to develop a line of synthetic top quilts, under quilts, and child quilts that will still be higher performance than most commercial synthetic bags but much cheaper than my enLIGHTened stuff as we will be using materials that better balance cost and performance. Some of the design elements will also be changing to keep our labor costs low but if cost is more important than weight be looking for our new line of quilts on http://sanborncanoe.com/ hopefully by mid Nov. I am also working on a hammock for them but it will not be ready as fast as a lot more testing will be needed. (which is why i am motivated to destroy hammocks to learn some limitations)
-Tim
*final costs aren't worked out so i am really hoping we can keep them low but we will be selling them in shops so we must factor in a retail markup so we'll see where they end up*
