    Bringing Backup Suspension

    Greetings

I was wondering how many of you carry a backup suspension for your hammock? Me personally, I carry an extra pair of 6' tree huggers for the case in which I have large trees to contend with or if one of my straps happens to break. I use a pair of 8' Amsteel UCRs attached to Amsteel chain links and descending rings for my suspension. I was thinking of making a pair of whoopie slings as backup.

I tend to live by the adage of 2 is 1 and 1 is none for most of my items that I backpack with.

I have more than 1 knife blade with me
I carry a wood and alcohol stove
I have a couple methods of water filtration and purification
I have a few methods of water carrying
I carry extra guy lines for my tarp (4 extra. I only use 6 of the 10 ties on my Ogee).
I carry about 100' of 2.2 zing-it along with 50 or so feet of paracord

I know this is a matter of comfort level and convenience. I was just wondering how many of you do?

    Cheers

    Brian

Not me. Not yet, anyway. A good discussion to have. Straps and whoopies seem to be some of the more durable parts of my kit and I haven't worried about them much. I do carry extra guylines and stakes. My backup stove is a fire ring.

Nope, I think I might though some 1.75mm line in the pack for extra guy/tree line for my tarp as I have run into a few spots where a couple extra feet would make a difference. But for suspension, nope. I am hanging on dynaglide and if I can't trust what I am making then I am doing no service to all the folks hanging on my stuff. I tend to build to the strong side and error on the safe margin of working loads for my gear though.

I keep an extra whoopie in the first aid kit. I also started using a whoopie sling as a belt.

I carry para-cord. That's about it. I have used it a few times to extend my huggers. Hint: if you wrap it enough, there is no stretch. Most of my redundancy is things like fire making, first aid, rain protection, knives, etc..

As a backup I carry two 4ft long pieces of amsteel with fixed loops on each end for a quick fix to a broken suspension or adding extra length for a long reach between trees and I also carry one extra hugger for that big tree or that broken strap but I have yet to need them but just can't leave them behind. this is the only thing I carry extra except socks

I never have. I just cant see anything happening to webbing. I always have some spare cord though.
