Hatchet Creek Hang

Went out for the first time since an AT trail hike back in June. Down near Goodwater, AL. I got to put my new MacCat Deluxe and Lost River UQ to use for the first time. I was very happy with both, though I'm still working on learning to use them. Set up in the dark, which left my guy line angles less than optimum, and I needed to tighten up my ridgeline as well. But there's lots and lots of room under the tarp. I also liked how shady it stayed under the black tarp in the morning. After breakfast, while the boys were cleaning up, I went back and just relaxed in my hammock.

Positioning on the UQ is still a work in progress as well. I had no problem attaching it, but it seemed a bit tough to it get to stay up just past my shoulders. I was warm, except where the shoulders were just above the quilt.

But I'll get it. I'll be going out again next month. Hopefully I'll have it dialed in better by then.

Hey Looks good Tekape

With the Lost River on a BB I would ditch the mini carabiner and the little prussic and slip the shock cord over the whipping bundle. It will hold the line just fine and has just enough friction between the shock cord and the fabric that it will hold perfect. Also in that set up you can set the quilt to a slight angle by putting more cord to one side or the other of the bundle so that the quilt will sit more in line with how you lay in the hammock. Adjust the shock cord tension to just snug the quilt to the hammock and be sure to only snug the end channel cords as well as that gives the best fit and keeps from opening up any air gaps.

Looks like a great hang, I like black tarps, they look sharp.

Thanks for the tips Paul...I'll give it a try this week. See if I can get it to work that way.

I could sure tell when I let a gap open between the gap and the hammock as the cold air just poured into the space! It was nice confirmation that the UQ was doing its job.

If anyone else see's something awry in my setup, I'm still learning a lot of this stuff.

Thanks for posting. Good to see another area hanger. I hear Hatchet is good for canoeing when the water is right.

No water this time around...I've never seen it so dry. Barely any water in the stream at all.

I debated on the black vs grey tarp for a few days and just decided I didn't "stealth" anything, so why not get the black? I'm glad I did, as I really like it.
