I am just curious if anyone has experience with using Joan fabric ripstop? I believe it to be uncoated 1.9 ripstop nylon. I am just wondering if it is or isn't down-proof? I want to make a underquilt but am hesitant about t it... thanks

99% likely hood that what you find at Joanns is not going to be down proof, second for a UQ it is pretty heavy as well. Check out Backwoods day dreamer for DIY fabric that will be labeled if it is Down proof or not.

If you look at it and one side is shinier, it will likely be downproof.
The Joanne's stuff I have appears to be downproof, but I'd have to make a test pillow... It's so heavy and at $7.99 a yard, why not buy some downproof 1.1oz from Sclittlefield for $3 a yard? Last I checked he had olive and camo... I have some of the olive, and I like it a lot...
Once you cover shipping, it'll still be cheaper and lighter than the Joanne's fabric...
Oh, Sclittlefield runs backwoodsdaydreamer... Paul beat me to it...

Yes,
JoAnns RS is down proof. I have used it for quite a few things, and considerably moisture resistant too. Sign up on the e-mail list, and they always have 40% off cupons. But, I also have used sclittlefield's which is available in more 'hammock-able' colors, and prefer it.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.
A fabric which resists the penetration of down. The fabric may be closely woven to be downproof by nature or may be cired or coated to make it downproof.
thanks everyone
