Canada has been co-ed since 1998. We have 5 girls in our Troop.

It's fun to observe the reaction when we do World Brotherhood Camp with the BSA.

The crest is messed up because we haven't managed to convince the BSA that there's no such thing as Boy Scouts Canada, and hasn't been for years.

Not sure why scouts isn't mixed in the BSA - it was always intended by BP to have girls in troops, it just wasn't acceptable at the time. It is now, so get on with it! = )

I'm a leader in a BSA Troop and also a leader in a Venturing Crew. Something I've run across in Boy Scouts is the mentality that "females" don't belong in scouting. I've run across Troops that don't even allow female leaders. And some that will allow female leaders or committee members but wont allow them to go on camping trips. That's the way they run their Troops, I just made sure I joined a Troop that was encourging to female leaders being there. I've now been on lots of camping trips with my scouts and lots of backpacking trips, which will have different concerns to deal with. I think the scouts have benifited from having females around, especially on the backpacking trips where we all have to watch out for each other.
I doubt that I will ever see girls being scouts in BSA. I'm very happy that girls are allowed to be in Venturing and in Explorers. The "boy" scouts that join a Venturing or Explorer crew are experiencing some different life lessons in camping. The main one being that they are realizing that females can camp out in the woods!!!

Up here in the Great White North, this same attitude exists for Girl Guides; males are not welcome in any capacity. It may be contributing to the number of girls joining Scouts Canada. Dad and daughter want to do something together. My wife wishes there was some place for boys to be boys, but that just isn't politically correct any more.

That's a great trip report. Another Assistant Scoutmaster, and myself brought up making hammocks with our Troop Committee. There was a bit of fun poked at us, but I think it may be a go. I think we'll try to have the boys make their own. The boys are all for it!

Well getting into the woods is what Scouting is about. As the committe chairman for my troop it's about the boys. And meny of our camp outs are open for the familys as well.
My wife was a girl scout leader and saya the difference is the BSA has adult/youth training.
But anyway nice pics and keep up the good work of "Fun with a purpose".
Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course.
