I had thought of doing this as well, but I couldn't find any really small or really cheap children's sleeping bags. I want both, and I haven't found it quite yet.

I got a really cheap sleeping bag at Walmart. Less than $10!! I plan to convert it to an UQ next weekend with video to be posted some time after that.

Let us know what you do with pics. I'm excited to see how these project turn out!

nifty! my question is; do you think it might fit with less gap if your bottom/keel seam was cut on a curve, rather than 3 straight sections?(while allowing for the fact that straight is easier to sew than curved...) KM (who like this idea very much!)

Nice work! And thanks for the clever way you attached the instructions and pix- it's very useful in the Excel format.

Ya know, I don't know. I was going to roughly follow the pattern and instructions from Just Jeff located here: http://www.tothewoods.net/RedRiverGo...orgeQuilt.html

Interesting, Is there a reason why one couldn't just add some shock cord to the top and bottom of a bag and use it as an UQ or would it not work?

You can, it just a lot to try to pack, figure in that you'll need a topquilt, and if you have a full uq, pack space get's eaten up quickly.
Thats pretty much the reason for smaller uq's..lighten the load and reduce bulk.
