How to hang a tarp - not!

Watch this youtube video for a red-green look alike tieing up a 300 pound "camping tarp". He says "it only took me 30 minutes to tie this up but if you had some help you could do it in about 15 minutes easy"...And check out how nice and tight it is..

and don't give up too early on the video, you have to watch 3/4ths of it before he gives the credit for the great harmonic music...too funny.

    Wow

Wow? I never thought of going with a small tarp.

So THAT's what I've been doing wrong all this time...I gotta remember to hammer my stakes in next time!

I feel kinda bad laughing at this. I mean, its not lightweight hiking. Its Family camping, where they will stay for a while, and not move. For car camping, I would end up making a similar set up (if I had the stuff), if I know im not going to move, and I dont care about my weight. It does look peaceful, and enjoyable.

I don't think they can stay under that tarp for long - it's 15 feet in the air. the slightest bit of rain with any wind will quickly soak all but a small portion of the area under the tarp. It is also sagging in the middle. Any rain will pool in the middle and bring it down.

My familty use to go camping like that when I was kid - except we had a two room canvas tent. With the cots, chairs, coleman stove, giant gas laterns, fishing equipment and food for a week we had to use a utility trailer my dad built to haul all of it. But we never pitched a tarp 15 feet in the air.
