    Incubator, Too Warm?

    .

I've never used an UQ before. If I get an UQ, I don't want to use a "foot" pad with one (my feet get cold before any other parts), so I've decided if/when I purchase an UQ, I'd like a full length (vs 3/4 length) UQ by Hammock Gear to keep me comfortable down to around 0°.

BUT... If a person only has 1 UQ, is there a drawback to having the Incubator when it's not 20° and below? By that question I mean, is it just for a certain temperature "window" say, 20°-25° and below? Can it be adjusted to accommodate temps in the 30° -40° range?

My JRB 20F quilts have kept me cozy to about 20-25F and in temps that are higher, I just don't bundle up so much... When it's 50 or above it's easy to gap and ventilate an underquilt.

Here is a link to HammockGears page with the temps of the quilts: http://www.hammockgear.com/cart/inde...ndex&cPath=3_7

The numbers that he has listed are the "lowest" temp that that quilt will/can go down too! If you look at the ratings that he has given there are two listed, one for the 900 fill, and the other for the 800 fill! So depending on the fill you get you could effectively change the rating by 5* or so (per Adam)! Most people have a couple different set's of quilt's mainly for the season or seasons they will be out in! For instance if you are going out in winter you will need quilts and clothing and such to get you down to that expected temp (5* or 0*, whatever it may be) but I would not use a winter quilt in spring or fall, as I would roast, probably sweat to death as I am a very warm sleeper, so I use a set of summer quilt's for spring/fall and usually nothing under me in summer and maybe a SUL blanket on top!
Hope this helps you a little!!

You can raise the temp rating of your UQ (meaning it won't keep you as warm) simply by having an air gap between you & the UQ. The more air gap, the cooler you will be. In Summer I often have my UQ hanging a foot or so below me in the summer, If I get cool I can reach out & snug up the suspension.

So, if you can only get one UQ, get one that will do the lowest temp you expect to hang in. For me that's Zero or colder.

If you don't quite want to do that, there are other options for increasing the R Value of your UQ & those are posted elsewhere here at HF.

I use my Winter Yeti up to 65-70* with no problems, just sleep in as little clothing possible and use hardly, if any, top insulation.

How many pairs of underwear do you own? Do you refer to them as "extras", simply because you're not wearing all of them as we speak?

Like others have said, just create an air gap between you and the UQ.

Quite often during the warmer months, I'll get in the hammock and have the UQ pulled to the side and when I do get cool, I'll simply reach under and pull it underneath me.

So I take it the Incubator can be adjusted to be comfortable even in the 40°-50° range?

IMHO you can take an UQ all the way up to the point where you don't need any UQ anymore. So the only penalty for getting one rated for very cold weather is you're carrying a bit more weight and bulk the rest of the year. Not everyone can afford an UQ let alone multiple UQs for different seasons.

Sure can, I just did it at the Dolly Sods Hang. The lowset it got was 40-42f and I was cozy and not too warm. I have the Incubator in olive. It is the bomb as the kids say.
