Welcome. I don't have anything more to add than what was already said. But....I'm thinking about heading to Tillamook state forest this weekend, just west of Brown's Camp. Found a nice lil spot last weekend that will support several hammocks. PM me if you would like to "hang" out. Enjoy the new addiction!

I have an ENO DoubleNest and a ProLite 4 Thermarest and tried a sleep trial in the back yard last week. The Thermarest wanted to squirt out from under me at every opportunity. I have since ordered a KAQ underquilt to avoid the escaping sleeping pad syndrome. :-)

I would second the opinion to ditch the slap straps and pick up a set of whoopie slings and polyester tree straps and toggles. You can then ditch the ENO carabiners and heavy cord they use in the ends of the hammock. The new system will be much lighter, stretch-free, infintely adjustable (well, almost!) and less volume (the whole works --hammock and everything you need to hang it-- will easily fit in the hammock's built in sack).

    Happy napping,

Welcome, Gavinar!! Not much to add, but just wanted to extend a "hoooww-deee." As Silverlion said, he's trying to get a PacNW hang together. Watch the "Hangouts, Campouts, and Trip Planning" forum for details (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/f...splay.php?f=44)

Have a blast with your test hangs! Post some pics if you get a sec.

From the advice on this thread and reading some other threads, I went ahead and ordered an "All in one" system from whoopieslings.com. Here I was thinking having to pitch the hammock multiple times to get the angle right (due to stretching of the slap straps) was a normal phenomenon!

Looking forward to static lines with near infinite adjustability. I figure if we end up getting another hammock for the wife to sleep in I will make my own whoopie sling using tutorials here + using the prebuilt model I bought as a physical example. Alot easier to get the directions right the first time if you have an example to work from, at least with the way I learn.

    Welcome Gavinar!

    Gavinar,

I have been reading the posts here for a couple years and these folks are incredibly helpful, knowledgable, respectful and so open with their help. I put a "little" intro on the thread about "what brought you here" but wanted to restate just how helpful these people are. Like brothers and sisters they will laugh, mock and poke fun at others, but never in a harmful way and always in a way that will make you laugh if you are at all able to laugh at yourself.

This place is riddled with well intentioned, well informed and helpful members. There was something posted about a motto of sorts for the forum and although it may not be 100% scoutworthy, the phrase "a community of well hung tree huggers" kept running through my mind.

I registered a day or so before my 54th birthday and hope to someday extend that helping hand of knowledge sharing to others.

    Mike

Good point, and now that Im better informed itll probably be a WBBB, but then we'll probably be fighting over who gets 'the nice hammock'

It's come a long way since this post

**** you all, I've got the fever!

    Now using:
    Warbonnet BB 1.0 DL
All-In-One Whoopie sling system from whoopieslings.com

    On order:
    MacCat Ultra SilNylon
Stormcrow 3s Incubator with 900 fill.

I figured the Ultra would be enough coverage for 2 blackbirds side by side. Anyone have experience with this? I'm going to get my wife a BlackBird and Incubator for her birthday!

Yep. Happened to me too. Started with an innocent, spur of the moment purchase of a Trek Light hammock at a local outdoor expo. Progressed quickly from napping in the hammock, to sleeping in it, to cold butt syndrome. Which naturally led to a KAQ Lost River UQ, a MacCat Deluxe tarp, and new suspension. Now I have a WBBB on order. Man this disease moves quickly !!!!!!
But I'll tell you this, after years of tossing & turning while trying to sleep outdoors, the hammock is a godsend. Now I'm trying to to ditch my tent for good as well.
