I did this video for my brother in-law so he would know how to set up the hammock I made for his birthday.
sorry about the black spot in the upper left corner. I was trying out a modification of my kodak playsport camera. I didn't have the wide angle lens mounted "just right".
I "had" to build a work table in the garage in order to layout and cut all the material for this project.
I started out with 30' of 1.1 rip-stop and 30' of nano-seeum from Scott at Backwoods Daydreamer and 50' of 7/64 amsteel blue and 40' of zing-it from Paul at Arrowhead Equipment. I also had some leftover 1.1 camo from one of the group buys put on by sclittefield, some mosquito netting from hancock fabrics and 1000' spool of 3/32" of shock cord from Amazon (I am now using shock cord for everything).
The hammock is a double layer built approximately in the style of Knotty's gathered end. I say approximately b/c I cut the ends on a diagonal - making a parallelogram. This creates a longer diagonal in one direction resulting in a flatter lie.
I put an adjustable R/L on the hammock made with the Zing-it. and whoopies on either end. I don't have any beads big enough for the whoopies so I used my version of the Grand Trunk cord-lock knot (essentially a double over-hand stopper knot tied around the amsteel)
The ridgeline supports a gear organizer made from the leftover mosie netting and it is attached to the r/l via shock cord kleimheists on either end (this allows for adjusting the r/l and forgetting to reposition the gear organizer - did you know that the plastic nano s-biners pop when you readjust the r/l and get back in the hammock? I do).
The bug net is removable and is a variation of imrisk's 1/4 weight and sclittlefield's removable bugnet system.
The treehugger's are 1" poly webbing with 2" loops in the end. The toggles for the marlin spike hitch are made from 6" of an aluminum arrow shaft (3" each).
The stuff sack is a 'black bishop bag' and is able to hold everything in one place. The sack measures 7" by 23" when laying flat. when everything is put up it is approx 6" across by 12" long.
I really enjoyed putting this together. I hope you like the video and the pictures.
