I think I'm ready to hang...

New guy here. My name is Shane (I know there is another Shane on here too - I've read some of his posts... just call me "New Shane"). I'm in Arlington, Tx. I've been backpacking for around 30 years, and now my lovely wife is ready to start hitting the trail with me. The downside is that I have gotten to where ground sleeping is miserable no matter which pad I try. I think I'm ready to hang.

I'm going to order a WBBB 1.7 double and a WB Big Mamajamba in Spinn as soon as I get done writing this. I'm sure a WBBB 1.0 double and another tarp (maybe a MacCat Deluxe) will be ordered shortly after for the boss. Hopefully UQs won't be far behind.

I've been scouring the forums, learning and making decisions, and am overwhelmed by the community present here. My mind is reeling from things such as whoopie slings, Dutch clips, continuous loops, nacrabiners, and all of the other ideas everyone is trying to lighten and simplify the hammock kit. I love it.

I'm hoping the first hammock gets here soon enough that we can both test it out and decide whether an additional purchase is needed before the November Texas group hang. I'd love to attend that event if things work out.

Big thanks to everyone for sharing here! Hopefully I sometime I can bring a little back to a group that has already given so much.

Yup! I can't think of any other place that has been able to pull me out of lurk mode. Folks here are just too darned friendly (and crazy smart when it comes to hammocking (and some are just plain crazy ).

Nice to get you out of the woodwork and into the community. Keep us posted as you go out!
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

Welcome. Looks like your on the right track with purchases. You'll be amazed at how nice an under quilt works on the hammock too.

    Welcome!

I'm a new guy too. Reading up here for info, is like drinking from a firehose. It sounds like you're off to a great start!

Welcome! I will have to agree with you on a few things! Ground sleeping is over and WBBB is the way to go! You will love getting up in the mornings not stiff and sore. When you order yours don't forget about the boss! I need to get one for mine...

Welcome, I'am a neebie too. I bought a hammock just thinking that there was nothing to it, WRONG. This place is great. TMI. I have completely changed my way of thinking. Came here just of a little insite, now I'm going to make my own hammock, tarp, and whoopie slings. Hope you have fun with it.
