    Amsteel vs original line

I just ordered some Amsteel to redo the suspension on my CJH 250. My slow brain just realised that the line diameter is much different and I was wondering if there would be any problem using the Amsteel.

On the Clark, the line runs through channels on each end and now I wonder if the smaller diameter will injure the hammock in any way.

    Opinions please.

I haven't heard of anyone saying amsteel is cutting into their hammocks and there is a lot of amsteel on hammocks these days. If it still worries you, you can always sleev it somehow. Such as with paracord.

I've got amsteel (7/64ths size) running through the channels of my Clark hammock. I put the fixed loop through the channel and then a larkshead knot to hold it there. This way the amsteel isn't moving inside the channel material.

I worried about that as well.

One thing Amsteel has going for it is its slipperiness. That is why it won't hold knots well. The friction against the nylon is the enemy, so slipperiness is good. Another possible sleeve material is 1/2" tubular webbing or the sheath from a section of climbing accessory rope.
