    General Campsite Questions.

I have a general understanding of what to take suspension wise. DIY Whoopie Slings seem like the way to go.
But I have just a few general questions regarding hammock camping.

What portable stoves do you use?
    - Where did you get it?
    - How much did it cost?
What foods do you cook in it/take with you on a hike?
    Do you use a headlamp/lantern?

    - What kind/Where did you get it?
    - How much?
Where do you get your ridgelines, more specifically for tarps?
The internet or a store somewhere?

    - Could I go to Home Depot?
    - What lengths/gauges?

Any other links to sites where I could get these items or any other general information would be appreciated.
I've already watched Shug's "Intro to Hammocking" videos and he got me hooked. Thanks!

Check online for backpaking foods also freezer bag cooking.
Check out Zen stoves, bushbuddy stove, or Rei , the stove section,
Check with Tree to Tree for tarp ridgeline also Arrowhead equipment has them also.
Some other good online stores , anti Gravity Gear, Jacks r Better, Hammock Gear, Warbonnet Outdoors, Backpacker lite, also check out Whiteblaze.

I use a Jetboil PCS ($80, Jetboil.com)for my primary stove when I'm not using a camp fire and my USGI canteen cup($12, army surplus). I prefer a big steak over the fire, but I can't always have that. My next option is Mountain House foods and Ramen with beef jerkey.
I have an Energizer brand LED headlamp from Walmart ($12). I refuse to pay $100 for a headlamp that does the same thing the $12 one does(make light). Mine makes white and red light..ooooohhh, pretty! As far as ridgeline material. I have been using para cord for my tarp(until I get more Amsteel blue) As far as ridgeline in the hammock, it's 1/8" Amsteel(Redding Marine Supply). I had some left over when I did my Whoopie conversion on my Hennessy.
    Hope this helps. Happy hanging!

    Thanks for the info!
Looks like what I'm wanting is an alcohol stove. Pretty sure I can DIY one of those fairly easily.

I've got two 15' lengths of amsteel blue on the way actually, maybe i can use some of that.
One for a whoopie sling, the other somehow for a ridgeline.

It all boils down to how much you want to spend.

I usually use anything from my Snow Peak Giga ($40) to a Supercat stove (free).

I dehydrate my own food or go FBC style http://www.trailcooking.com/trail-co...ag-cooking-101

I also do alot of caving so I have headlamps coming out of my ears. Everything from $80 down to the same $10 one Silverlion spoke of. Myself, I dislike Princeton Tec (broke alot of them) I prefer Petzl or Black Diamond.

For tarp lines I like either Dynaglide or Speer No Tangle. When I first started out I used 1\8" Samson poly rope. Stay away from nylon. Check out Arrowhead Equipment. The owner Paul is one of us and his service is second to none. He'll take good care of ya! http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/apps/webstore/

    And welcome aboard!

Amsteel is way overkill for a tarp ridgeline. You'll need both pieces for your whoopies anyways.

    Haha yeah yeah.
I bought one length of 7/64" and the other 1/8", is the 7/64" difficult to make into a whoopie sling?

Aluminum Bottle Stove (I put the wick closer to the bottom but that's just me)
Klasslite Stove (works well with a Heineken can pot)
Brunton Talon Butane Stove When I want touch-and-go convenience.

Mountain house or homemade dehydrated stuff (best homemade I've had was dehydrated burger, angel hair pasta, pesto mix, and olive oil. It's GOT to have olive oil!) Also, JELLO PUDDIN POPS! (Ok, not really)

Yes, I got my favorite one from Kmart's camping section. Cost like 10 bucks, runs on a couple AAA batts (or just one), real light, bright enough. Sadly I can't tell you the brand.

1/8" poly braided cord at the Home Depot. I bought 50', cut a 30' piece for my tarp ridgeline and a couple lengths for the tarp tie-outs.

What portable stoves do you use?
Summer months - Vargo Outdoors Triad XE Titanium Alcohol
    - Where did you get it? REI (http://www.rei.com/product/761903)
    - How much did it cost? $33
Winter months - Optimus SVEA stove similar to this one (http://www.backcountry.com/optimus-svea-stove)
What foods do you cook in it/take with you on a hike?Mountain House type foods, packs of tuna or salmon and flat bread and lots of balance bars.
For breakfast in the summer months I like to take vanilla protein powder, freeze dried berries and granola (just add cold water).
Do you use a headlamp/lantern? Petzl Tikkina 2 LED Headlamp
    - What kind/Where did you get it? The one I picked up has 3 light levels and also flashes to use as a signal. I don’t need the colored LED so I skipped them.
    REI (http://www.rei.com/product/793266)
    - How much? $20
Where do you get your ridgelines, more specifically for tarps? Arrowhead Equipment
