    3 Season Crowsnest - 800 or 900 Fill ?? Help ??

    Hi All

Going to pull the trigger on a 3 season crowsnest soon.
Our $$ is to good right now to pass the opportunity up.

Cannot decide between the standard 800 fill and the 900 fill option.

Honestly if the 800 fill will get me down to -7 C that would probably be overkill for me. I'm in Australia and it just isn't as cold here. Your 3 season quilt will do me for a winter one.

    But......

If the 900 fill is worth the extra cost and will loft a bit more it might be worth it. Not sure.

Does the 900 fill UQ pack as small as the 800 fill one ?? or does it add a bit of size.

Realistically the coldest I'll hang in will be about -3 C.

I'll be just using this UQ for colder weather when my summer UQ is not enough.

Help needed as I just cannot decide

IF you have the $$$ to spring for it the 900 will compress smaller---aka less bulk than the 800. The higher the fill number the better the quality of the down, it will hold more warmth and loft higher oz for oz as you go up but will pack smaller if you absolutely have to get it as small as possible.

You CAN do that, but, be advised... There is a diminishing return when overstuffing a quilt. Loft is also very important. If you try to shove too much goose down into a small space, you are defeating the purpose of using this premium insulation. Otherwise, there would be no reason for different baffle heights.

    Trigger pulled.....

Ahh heck I'm like a kid in a lolly shop with all this gear and the $$ so good.

Just pulled the trigger on a 3 season crowsnest in stealth black with 900 fill down.....

Okay, Okay no more gear now, promise.....

I have my summer/shoulder UQ & TQ quilts. (Tewa)

Now this Crowsnest with my Kathmandu down bag for a TQ.....

I'll say I will not but next will be a 3 season Burrow for a TQ or an over stuffed Summer version with 900 fill.

I did have a think about an overstuffed summer UQ but I have my summer tewa which I know works to 40 F, this will fill all the gaps for me.

There might be some merrit to a quilt being overstuffed to much, not sure. Kinda makes sense though if the baffles only allow so much lofting before they are completely full.
