    Greetings theDuck

I can't say if this hang is still on or not and I agree not much has been going on with this thread in quite a while. I shot a Private Message to the original poster of the thread inquiring where things stand. I suggest that you should do the same.

    Cheers

    Hi Guys,

Now that the new year's here, I thought I would weigh in on the discussion and start trying to finalize any arrangements.

I'll send a pm to all members who responded to the survey and see where we stand on invites.

I'm looking at the 3rd weekend in Feb. The first has confilicts and the second is around Valentines day.

Tentatively the location would be east and north of Toronto, Frontenac or Algonquin but that's still open. I haven't heard back from some of my inquiries.

If you're still interested, drop a note

I'm still in for this winter hang. I will make a note of this weekend on my calendar.

    Cheers

Unfortunately, I will not be able to make those dates as I will be in Florida sans hammock.. Have a great trip and I'm disappointed that I will be missing this meeting.

I'm still going to be camping with the Scouts that weekend but I am keen to get together with you guys again some time when our schedules match up again. One day I'll start divesting myself of too many commitments.

    Hey Guys

I have finished up my weekend winter camping course that was held out a Frontenac Provincial park. I had a great time, although there was no record breaking bone chilling cold, it did get down close to -10C on the Saturday night. I was a ground dweller for the weekend as I wanted the experience of sleeping in a quinzhee. I should have brought my hammock, but that is another story.

One thing to know about Frontenac park, is that there is only back country camping there and that there is only camping at designated sites. The main access road to the parking lot that gets you closest to the trails to the sites is closed in the winter. So that adds 4km or so to any hike. The location for the course was off behind a intermediate parking lot and it still took an hour to hike there (just shy of 2km). Everything in winter camping, is harder, heavier, bulkier and takes way more effort just pulling your sleds along. That is the reason the weekend course was moved to this location. One other thing to consider is that since this park is all back country sites, there are no backup resources available (no heated washrooms, etc).

That being said, the little of the park that I saw it is beautiful and there is lots of snow on the ground and lots of trees to hang hammocks from. This is not meant to discourage picking Frontenac PP as a winter hang location, I just feel it would be better/safer/wiser to pick a location where you are much closer to your vehicle for any unforseen circumstances that may occur.

I am game to going that weekend, just my preference would be for a different location.

    Cheers

    Brian

I don't have all of my gear for sleeping in the cold organized as of yet.

Hopefully it will come together but since it'll be my first I wouldn't mind being close to my truck just in case.
