Unfortunately it says it is allowed only in "developed recreation sites". I don't believe the Sipsey "Wilderness" has any of those.

It looks like we'll have to postpone this weekend's trip.

Howdy fellas and ladies, anyone heard updates on the fire ban? Me and my compadres are heading out to sipsey Friday morning and were sure looking forward to a fire for the below freezing nights this weekend. Will start a new post with a trip report in case any of you are planning a trip up there this month or next. Will be testing out my first tq and uq setup. Jrb No Sniveller TQ and 3/4 Crowsnest UQ. I sure hope it keeps me warm into freezing temps. Will have a sea to summit reactor sleeping bag liner to give me another 10ish degrees of warmth.

As far as I know it's still in effect. I emailed the FS last week with some questions and never got a response, maybe I'll try calling them.

When I was in Talladega NF last weekend they had notices at all the trailheads, I assume it's the same in Sipsey.

I'd like a fire, but I'm not willing to pay $5,000 for it

Make sure you carry a foot pad to keep your feet warm. I use a REI seat pad inside the bottom of my sleeping bag. Works good but any pad will work. Have good time! Thomas

Wow, thru the end of the year. We had a good bit of rain thru the last 24 hours, here 90 miles due east of Sipsey.

Good luck testing your gear. Anybody got a weather report for this weekend in Sipsey? Below freezing temps?

Just an update. I called the Bankhead Wilderness' informational number and they confirmed that the fire ban is indeed still on through December 31, 2010. What a total bummer.
