Are there any companies that still make there products here in the great ol U.S.A.? I try to buy everything made here in the U.S.A.. It's hard to do though. I'll even pay more for a quality product made here!!! Support your country.

Actually yes, there are. Its just not in areas you would suspect. US manufacturers have gotten out of making garments (and in a way, a tent, or sleeping bag) is a garment because the cost is far too high to do so. Materials, and labour costs drove US based garment manufacturing out (remnants of it exist in Canada, artificially buoyed by our traditionally low valued dollar, but are now really hurting as CDN$ is basically at parity with the US$). It's natural. Business people do not run businesses to hire people. They run businesses to make goods or services, then sell them for a profit. That jobs are created, while necessary to make the good or service is actually ancillary to the real goal of the company: make money. [Moderator's edit: political]

That said, the US does still manufacture. And a WHOLE HELL OF A LOT. Like over 3 trillion dollars a year worth. A Whopping 21% of all the world's manufacturing happens in the US. [Moderator's edit: political]

This is a good discussion, and the origin of our hammock gear is a valid topic. Lets try to leave the fueled political commentary out of it, though...
