    Ruined by Efficiency

So, I just want to throw something out there:

The lingo the hammock community has created to describe/name things has one unfortunate side effect. When UQ is always used for underquilt, TQ for top quilt, WS for whoopie sling, sag used to describe a somewhat technical but rather important adjustment for comfort...

...how annoying is it that the forum search engine ignores any word of less than 4 characters?

Yeah, when I first got here I was getting really pissed. And all these old timers are like "what's the big deal, just use the search engine"

It's actually helpful, IMO. The short abbreviations are used so often that they would skew the results of searches to non-related threads.

The common acronym list linked from most of the mods signature line should be pretty clear.

Yes, but if you're looking for information, not having 95% of the appropriate threads show up is a bit of a problem. :P

Searching for a broad acronym term won't be very useful, due to the sheer number of results.

Try searching the individual subforum that contains the gear you're looking for, using a more specific term than 'UQ' or 'TQ', etc.

The "tag search" is also very helpful.

You can also use Google for the short words. You would type this into the Google search box:
    UQ site:www.hammockforums.net

The "site:" part limits the search to hammock forums.
