I pride myself on my cold weather camping. The further below zero, the happier I am.

That said, I get cold sometimes when I shouldn't. I think the 1st Annual Colorado Winter Hang only got down to the minus teens and I simply could not get warm the first night. I wasn't cold enough to do anything about it, but it was uncomfortable all night. I freely admit that owning-up to the fact around the fire in the morning wasn't an easy thing for me to do. But, facts is facts; sometimes they're on your side, other times not so much.

Woobie is synonymous with poncho liner and snivel gear is anything that keeps you warm other than your body hair, t-shirt and uniform. But everybody loves the pogey bait.

The tables are turned in cold weather,my beanpole-frame buddies look at me steaming in my hammock with pure beer-gut envy

Being stout is great when its stupid cold.

man, there seems to be a bunch of big guys here. We really ought to have a 300#+ sub group! That would be funny. Someone already threw the term "heavy hangars" out, I love it. We could alter the weight limit rules if you are short and fat but closer to the 275's.

Lord knows we would eat well at our events.

Big Papi, guess that makes me a "featherweight" at only 150 (at most). I'm chalking up being cold to being a noobie (course, that may last for years...).

Buffalo Skipper: One of my hiking partners is from S Fla, He starts shivering at around 80 - 85 I"m from SW Ohio, I stop sweating when it gets down to 70. Yea, there is a limited time when we can hike together.
And in answer to Earplug's question: I ask him a few times a night, because if I don't, as Skipper says, you CAN freeze a Florida native to death at room temp. Ice forms on Matt at 60
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

Floridians may freeze at room temp, but us mountain folk start to melt at 80*+. Seriously... I find I start to have trouble breathing if it gets up much over 90*. And, I literally can't sleep in temps that are 80*+ because it's too darn hot.

Isn't it friggin' cool how our environments can effect us and how adaptive we really are? The science geek in me loves it!

I thought a woobie was a poncho w/liner used as a lightweight sleeping bag. Dubbed woobie because if you use it "you wobbie cold!"

(But I suppose if you're already wearing cold weather clothes, gloves, hat, etc., a poncho w/liner can provide some added comfort.)
